Postpartum Chiropractic Care in Oconomowoc, WI
Everyone asks about the baby. How is the baby sleeping? How is the baby eating? How much does the baby weigh?
You are expected to be fine. To bounce back. To feel like yourself again in a matter of weeks. And if you don't, there is often very little support waiting for you.
At Essence Family Chiropractic, we believe the postpartum season deserves as much attention and care as pregnancy itself. Your body just did something extraordinary. Your nervous system has been through an enormous transition. And how you recover in the weeks and months after birth matters deeply, not just for you but for your baby and your whole family.
What Happens to Your Body After Birth
Birth, whether vaginal or cesarean, places significant demands on the pelvis, spine, and nervous system. Hormonal shifts affect ligament laxity and joint stability. The physical demands of feeding, holding, and caring for a newborn add new layers of strain. Sleep deprivation compounds everything.
For many moms, the postpartum period also brings a nervous system that is stuck in overdrive. The vigilance required to care for a new baby, combined with the physical recovery from birth, can keep the nervous system locked in a stress state that makes rest, recovery, and connection harder than they should be.
Postpartum chiropractic care addresses all of it. Not just the physical recovery but the neurological one too.

The general sense of feeling disconnected from your own body
Dr. Kate's Unique Postpartum Support
Dr. Kate is both a Doctor of Chiropractic and a certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), one of the only providers in Wisconsin with both credentials. That means postpartum care at EFC goes beyond spinal adjustments.
If you are struggling with breastfeeding alongside your physical recovery, you do not have to see multiple providers to get the support you need. Dr. Kate can assess and support both in the same visit.
How We Assess You
Every postpartum patient starts with an INSiGHT nervous system scan. This non-invasive, no-radiation technology gives us an objective picture of how your nervous system is functioning after birth and where tension or dysregulation may be present.
Combined with a thorough postpartum history, we build a care plan specific to your birth experience, your recovery, and your goals. No two postpartum journeys are the same and your care will reflect that.
When Should You Come In
You do not need to wait until your six week checkup to seek support. Many moms come in within the first one to two weeks after birth. There is no minimum waiting period for postpartum chiropractic care and the earlier we can support your recovery the better your outcomes tend to be.
If you had a cesarean birth we do work gently and specifically around your incision site and recovery. Please let us know at booking so we can prepare appropriately for your visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How soon after birth can I come in?
As soon as you feel ready. Many moms come in within the first one to two weeks postpartum. You do not need to wait for your six week clearance from your OB or midwife.
I had a cesarean. Can I still receive chiropractic care?
Yes. We work with cesarean moms regularly and approach postpartum care gently and specifically with your recovery in mind. Please let us know at booking that you had a cesarean so we can accommodate you appropriately.
Can chiropractic help with postpartum anxiety?
Neurologically focused chiropractic care supports the nervous system in shifting out of a chronic stress state. Many postpartum moms find that their anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional dysregulation improve significantly as their nervous system begins to regulate. If you are experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety please also speak with your healthcare provider as additional support may be appropriate.
I am still breastfeeding. Is chiropractic safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is completely safe during breastfeeding. Dr. Kate is also an IBCLC and can support any breastfeeding challenges you are experiencing during your postpartum visits.
What if I bring my baby to my appointment?
We welcome babies at every visit. Many of our postpartum moms bring their newborns along and we are happy to assess and adjust both of you in the same appointment.
You carried and delivered a whole person. You deserve real recovery support.
If you are in the postpartum season and ready to feel like yourself again, we would love to help. Start with a New Patient Exam and INSiGHT nervous system scan.
